Speaker Series:
Martha Kohl presents “I Do: A Cultural History of Montana Weddings”
Kohl uses wedding stories to offer a glimpse into life on the frontier—from the buffalo hump served at sheriff-outlaw Henry Plummer’s wedding in Sun River in 1863 to the live chickens celebrants released in the home of newlyweds near Malta in 1920. She sheds new light on the values and experiences of ordinary Montanans and encourages audience members to share their own personal or family stories about getting married in Montana.
