Underground Tour
(Allow 1.5 hours for tour)
The underground tour at the World Museum of
Mining allows you to do more than just imagine
what it might have been like. At the peak of
Butte's mining boom, thousands of men worked in
the veins below the city of Butte. Students
will hear mining stories as they venture 65 feet
into the 2700-foot deep Orphan Girl Mine. The
World Museum of Mining's Underground Mine Tour
may be the most realistic tour that you ever
take!
Students are fitted with miner's hard hats, cap
lamps and battery belts. Good walking shoes and
light jackets are recommended. The mine
workings are not ADA compliant and walking 180
feet of entrance ramp is ordinarily required;
however, visitors with limited mobility may be
accommodated for much of the tour. Anyone can
turn around at any time.
