The Photograph Archives
collection was originally started through
donation of photographs from the community.
Also the photograph collection owned by the
Anaconda Mining Company (ACM) was donated as
a cornerstone for the project.
Subsequent donations of collections from
professional and amateur photographers have
helped to make this collection the most
extensive and complete historical
representation of Butte and the surrounding
area. The collection
today contains over 22,000 photographs,
negatives, and glass plate negatives. These
display everything from interior shots of
the underground mines and equipment to
historic buildings and events in the area,
as well as photographs of the famous and
everyday people who lived and visited in
Butte.
Like the artifacts and
structures throughout the rest of the museum
site, the Museum continues to strive to
improve the preservation and conservation of
the photograph collection. If you are
interested in donating photographs please
contact us.
The
photographs contained in the archives are
for sale for personal or professional use.
Please contact the museum for specifics on
formats, size, and prices.
