KEEPER OF A
DREAM
SAMIE KEITH
Samie Keith knew precisely
how untidy a doll could be.
Born in Anaconda, Montana in
1932 and known as Ramsey, Montana's longest
continuous resident, she retired from the U.S.
Attorney's office in 1994 after 35 years of
faithful service. Her fortitude and dedication
were also almost dutifully reflected in her
colorful interests.
Antiques, dolls, dollhouses,
old cars, musicals and theater rounded out
another of her interests - mystery books.
Sherlock (Holmes) and Agatha (Christie), her
Boston terriers, accompanied her daily on her
quest for additional collectibles.
The perfect condition of her
doll collection can be explained by her behavior
even as a child - she would constantly arrange
the dolls, but not play with them. The receipt
of her first dollhouse in 1943 was the beginning
of an historic dollhouse collection which is
currently on display at the World Museum of
Mining in Butte, Montana.
At the time of her death in
2005, Samie was working on a miniature dollhouse
of the famous 221B Baker Street, the residence
of Sherlock Holmes. This is the only incomplete
project in her massive collection.
