Young miners grades K-5 will have
the opportunity to explore the World
Museum of Mining through tours,
crafts and hands-on experiments. In
the summer of 2011 kids had the
opportunity to learn about the 1890s
through puppetry and crafts. Mining
methods were explored with hands-on
activities and a tour underground.
Youth also had the chance to get a
close up look at garnets and quartz.
The fun will continue in June 2012.
Check back for dates and camps.
2012 will also see the continuation
of our new Junior Volunteer/Docent
program. Youth ages 10 and up will
volunteer at the World Museum of
Mining. Projects will include
gathering oral history, artifact
identification, guest interaction
through living history activities,
and much more. The Junior
Volunteer/Docents will learn museum
practices through a series of
trainings at the World Museum of
Mining and other area museums. The
youth will be able to practice the
skills learned through hands on
projects supervised by the World
Museum of Mining education director
and curator. This is an exciting
opportunity for children to learn
more about Butte history and museum
operations.
